Following the footsteps of guys like Sawyer Sonnenschein, Luke Olson, Nicklaus Bothun and Lincoln Houska is certainly a tall-task. Those four just competed in the PGA National High School Championships at Pinehurst, and competed well. But as the new wave of young Pierre golfers makes their way through the ranks, another name is starting to gain traction in Beckham McPeck. McPeck is looking to take the baton from those ahead of him to continue the trend of dominant golfers coming out of the state capital.
McPeck has made it down to Pinehurst to compete in the Boys 13 division, and will be playing his tournament golf at Longleaf Golf Club in Pinehurst, one of the many great courses the compound has produced. Each year, the U.S. Kids Golf World Teen Championship welcomes golfers ages 13 – 18 to seven championship courses in the Pinehurst area. These courses, this event and the community as a whole have provided a stage for golf’s next generation of stars to shine. The schedule consists of a parent/child tournament, a night of skills challenges, three rounds of championship play, and the Closing Ceremony. Following the three-day championship, the Van Horn Cup — a one-day best ball tournament featuring the top players from each age group. — is contested on Pinehurst No. 8.
