CLARK, S.D. – The Mobridge-Pollock Tigers lost their first game of the season to Clark/Willow Lake 44-6 on Friday Night at Clark High School. An early deep passing touchdown connection from Shooter Frederick to Kale Knudson was the only time Mobridge-Pollock could find the endzone in the loss as the Tigers dropped to 6-1 on the season.
It was shaping up to be a high scoring game early with both offenses trading blows in the first few drives with Mobridge-Pollock breaking onto the scoreboard first on a 44 yard passing touchdown from Shooter Frederick to Kale Knudson, but Clark/Willow Lake responded quickly with a long touchdown drive with consistent medium distance run plays that wore the Tiger Defense out. Emerson Larson, Jakob Steen, and Joey Ries worked the run game to perfection in the win with occasional success through the air as well to top receiving targets Cooper Pommer and Lincoln Riedburn.
After trading touchdowns early Mobridge-Pollock went three and out on their very next drive which gave Clark/Willow L:ake an opportunity to score which they did on another long drive. Mobridge-Pollock had no answer to the Cyclone run attack in the first half but they also did an excellent job working the clock keeping the Tiger offense off the field for much of the game. After some late interceptions inside of two minutes left this game eventually reached half time with Mobridge-Pollock trailing, their first time down at halftime all season to this point.
The Tiger defense stood tall on the first Clark/Willow Lake drive of the second half but after failing to score on offense the defense struggled to stop the Cyclones throughout the rest of this game. Emmerson Larson had a huge second half scoring on back to back drives with a 75 yard touchdown down the right sideline, followed by a 50 yard touchdown on the very next drive right up the middle. This effort really put the game out of reach for Mobridge-Pollock earning him our Riverside Home Furnishing Player of the Game. Eventually with a running clock both teams would put their backups in and this would end in the first loss of the season for the Tigers, and a big win for Clark/Willow Lake.
The Cyclones improve to 6-1 while the Tigers took their first loss of the season to fall to 6-1.
Mobridge-Pollock will return home to take on Deuel next Friday, October 17 for their last game of the regular season, kickoff is at 7:00 p.m. CST.
