Capitol City Campus in Pierre in hosting an open house with Lake Area Technical College on Tuesday (April 14, 2026) to showcase a newly remodeled nursing simulation lab.
The open house is from 4-5:30pm, with a dedication program at 4:30pm. Attendees will have an opportunity to tour the upgraded facility, experience enhanced simulation technology and learn how the improvements support hands-on training for nursing students.
Lake Area Technical College President Tiffany Sanderson said the lab’s new equipment provides an environment that replicates clinical situations through the use of advanced manikins, high-tech medical equipment and immersive simulations. She said this project allows Lake Area Tech to expand access to healthcare education in central South Dakota, eventually increasing the number of nursing professionals in the state.
Lake Area Technical College currently enrolls 23 nursing students at the Capital City Campus. Students complete all classroom instruction in Pierre and make a limited number of trips to Watertown for skills checks.
Community members, students, healthcare partners and prospective learners are invited to the open house. Capital City Campus is located at 925 E. Sioux Ave. in Pierre.
The nursing simulation lab renovation was made possible through a grant from Avera Health.
