MOUNT VERNON, S.D. – The Mobridge-Pollock Tigers came up short in their first round playoff game to Mount Vernon/Plankinton 40-12 on Thursday Night at Heroes’ Field. After a highly contested start of the game Kyle Sandland came alive with two long touchdowns to help his team pull away out of reach as the Tigers season comes to an end.
Kyle Sandland had a career night and specifically a career second half running for two touchdowns longer than 70 yards earning him Riverside Home Furnishing Player of the Game. Sandland ended the day with around 260 rushing yards in an excellent performance. His brother Cole Sandland also had a big 35 yard touchdown in the first half. For Mobridge-Pollock Mack Saxon found the endzone on a long run, in the first drive of the second half and Shooter Frederick found Kale Knudson in an early first half drive but the offense was shut down after that and the deficit began to dictate the offense as the game went on causing the Tigers to struggle to sustain drives.
This game started with a quick offensive drive from Mount Vernon/Plankinton resulting in a Tyce Feistner one yard touchdown run up the middle to make the score 6-0. After some more back and fourth the Tigers trailed 14-6 with the Titans driving right before halftime but Feistner left one short targeting Riley Mayer leading to a huge Luke Olson interception. This sent Mobridge-Pollock into half time with a little bit of momentum still only down by eight.
Mobridge-Pollock came out in the second half with their best drive of the day capped off by a Mack Saxon touchdown run to bring the score within two. At this point the Tigers needed some defense but another good drive from the Titans found the endzone to make it 20-12. After forcing a Tiger punt Kyle Sandland broke away for his first of two long touchdowns which eventually put this game away with the clock continuing to wind down. The 40 points from the Titans is a season high, and even though he’s been good Kyle Sandland had a career day on the ground.
An unfortunate loss for the Mobridge-Pollock Tigers who had greater aspirations for the season and where it could go, but still a lot to look back on and be proud of for what they accomplished during this season.
