PIERRE, S.D. – The biggest wrestling weekend of the regular season for the Pierre Governors takes place this weekend. The festivities begin Friday at 4:00 when the Governors host over 40 teams for the Pierre Invitational girls wrestling tournament. Then on Saturday at 11:00 the annual East/West boys dual tournament begins. Rapid City Central and Stevens, as well as Sturgis from the west will dual Pierre, Aberdeen Central, Brandon Valley and Harrisburg from the east. Pierre and Harrisburg will also dual at around 5:00 to make up their ESD dual that was weathered out in December. During the East/West duals, the 2012 and 2013 State Champion Pierre teams and their head coach Ryan Noyes will be inducted into the Pierre Athletic Hall of Fame. The two state championships under Coach Noyes were the first team titles for Pierre since 1974, but they began a dynasty that saw the Governors claim six state titles in a seven-year stretch, including four straight under Coach Shawn Lewis up through the 2018 season. Following the Saturday tournament and induction ceremonies, a social gathering will take place at the Lariat Lanes. All former wrestlers, managers, coaches, families and friends are invited to attend, especially those involved with the 2012-13 teams.
