Monday night, Jones County and Miller boys faced off in a game that saw multiple lead changes and a few outstanding individual performances from both sides. The Rustlers trying to get their seventh win of the season and the Coyotes looking for their sixth, both teams brought their A-game and treated everyone in attendance to a back and forth battle.
Both defenses showed up from the jump as the first quarter only saw 14 combined points with the Coyotes taking a two-point lead into the second quarter. Miller quickly answered back with a 15 point frame taking a 21-19 lead into the half and taking control of the contest. Miller’s Isaak Hunter had one of the best first halves of his season scoring 16 points that included two three-pointers.
The swaying continued as Jones County came out hot in the second half regaining the advantage 29-27 as the defenses continued to shine, setting up a theatric fourth quarter. On the back of 19 points from senior Bryer Kinsely, the Coyotes were able to hang on and win it 40-37 and improve to 6-10 and snapping a 7-game losing streak. With the loss, Miller also sits a 6-10 on the year.
The Rustlers were led by Hunter who built on his first half performance finishing with 23 points, leading both teams in scoring. Jones County only had three players score in the game, but it would turn out that was all they needed to get the win as Kinsley led his team in scoring, alongside Luke Lolley who finished with 11 and Dawson Hunt who finished with 10.
Jones County will play in the Warner Classic this weekend while Miller will host Aberdeen Roncalli Friday night at 8:00 PM CT.
