In a KPLO Tuesday night doubleheader, the Cubs and the Beaverettes kicked off the evening with a defensive showcase that saw one of the two teams held to single-digits in all four quarters.
The Beaverettes came out and made a statement in the first quarter scoring 11 and holding Chamberlain to just three points to earn a comfortable lead. In the second quarter, both teams seemed to settle in defensively as the two teams only scored a combined 14 points again seeing Hanson stretch the lead to 10 making it 19-9.
Another strong defensive quarter in the third put the Beaverettes out in front with their largest lead 33-18 making it three straight frames in which Chamberlain was held to single digits. However, a strong fourth quarter from the Cubs made things tight as they got close to making it just a two-possession ballgame. The Beaverettes would hang on thanks to the 12 point performance from Ava Doyle while also getting 10 from Lacey Easton. Final score, 42-34.
Chamberlain was led by Natalie Nelson’s 17 points, but Hanson’s defense would limit the Cubs seeing only three other players find the score sheet. Hanson improves to 7-12 while Chamberlain would fall to the same record.
In game number two, the Chamberlain boys looked to continue on a stretch in which they have been playing their best basketball all regular season. They too would fall behind early 10-4 after a quiet first quarter offensively from the Cubs and seeing a low scoring half come to and end with Hanson out in front 16-11.
Whatever was said in the Cubs locker room at halftime paid off in bunches as Chamberlain came out roaring to the tune of 23 points in the third quarter alone giving them a five point, 34-29 advantage. The Cubs would stave off the Beavers and go onto win 58-44 securing another very important win for their postseason window.
The Cubs were led by Miles Thompson who went unconscious from three in the second half knocking down five deep shots (six total in the game) as he finished with a game-high 22 points. Hanson spread the wealth on offense seeing three players in double-digits as Jett Jaeger scored 10, Nathan Wilber finishing with 11 and Cole Dewald leading his team with 13.
Chamberlain picks up their 11th win of the season moving to 11-7 while the Beavers fell to 4-14 with the loss.
