The South Dakota Department of Corrections is providing notification to law enforcement and the public about the pending release of state prison offender Dalton Haug.
The 25 year old Haug will be released from prison Monday (March 16, 2026), after serving the entirety of his sentence for intentional damage to property out of Brookings County. Haug is releasing to Brookings. Because he served the entirety of his sentence, Haug will not be on parole supervision.
State Secretary of Corrections Nick Lamb said given this offender’s criminal history, elevated risk of reoffending and violent behavior identified through institutional assessments, law enforcement and the public are being notified of this release.
Haug is white, 5-feet-10-inches tall, and weighs approximately 185 pounds. He has brown hair and blue eyes.
This public notification is in addition to the letters sent to law enforcement and notices provided to the Division of Criminal Investigation each month. Since 2011, the South Dakota Department of Corrections has issued a total of 22 public notices of pending high-risk offender releases.
