The “Product of USA” voluntary labeling standard went into effect January 1, 2026, and this week (on National Ag Day/March 24, 2026), a nationwide public awareness campaign launched to let Americans know about it.
U.S. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins said the goal of both the Product of USA label and the awareness effort is to increase consumer understanding of what the label means.
Rollins said American farmers and ranchers grow, raise and harvest the world’s safest, most affordable and most abundant food supply in the world. She said American consumers want to support America by buying American and the Product of USA label strengthens the nation’s food supply chain by providing transparency and giving consumers the confidence they deserve about the food they bring home.
Under this standard, the “Product of USA” label is reserved exclusively for meat, poultry, and egg products from animals that were born, raised, harvested, and processed in the United States. The claim is voluntary, but companies using it must meet this transparent and verifiable requirement. This ends the prior practice which allowed imported products to carry the claim after minimal processing and strengthens consumer confidence by aligning with what Americans expect and demand.
