Pierre Governor softball opened up their 20206 season on the road Tuesday and came out on fire winning 17-0 in a run-rule victory. the Govs opened up the game with nine runs in the first inning followed by seven in the second. Already over the run-limit, the Govs would add another run in the third inning to cruise to a 1-0 season start.
From the box score, the Govs tallied 13 total hits with nine exttra base hits to overwhelm the Golden Eagles offensively. It felt like once the hits started, they never stopped coming, including a homerun from Alivia Heymans. Eight of the nine extra base hits were two-baggers seeing Ava Nelson with two doubles, Presley Spies, Micah Buffalo, Millie Johnson, Charlie Hull, Ally Keyes and Taryn Spruill with the rest. On top of Nelson’s two doubles, she finished with five RBI leading her team.
The winner in the pitchers circle was McKenzie Flottmeyer who only had to go three innings, posting shutout numbers only surrendering three hits along with seven strikeouts.
The Govs will look to stay undefeated in their home opener next Tuesday, April 7th on River 92.7 when they host Mitchell. Pregame will begin with Brian Oakland at 3:30 PM CT, first pitch at 4:00 PM.
