Governors baseball have been playing some of the best baseball of anyone this season, and much of it is coming from production at the plate. Yesterday, the Govs hung 29 in their doubleheader versus Aberdeen to pick up their fifth and sixth straight win over the last few weeks.
Game one went to Pierre by a final score of 15-11 followed by another high scoring affair finishing 14-9.
After a bases loaded triple made it 3-0 off the bat of Audan Johnson, the Smittys would answer back and ultimately the two teams would find themselves knotted up at five apiece. This theme would continue deep into the ballgame as the Govs were able to pull out in front by one.
Aided by errors, a 3-3 day at the plate from Trip Lindekugel would assist the Govs to a late victory and hand them momentum for game two.
Aberdeen would come out strong taking an early two run lead in game two, but that would quickly evaporate thanks to a Governor inning that saw five runs. The two teams again continued to battle back and forth as the game would get knotted up once again at six. However, it would prove hard to keep Pierer quiet as they exploded for 8 more runs to close out the game and secure the win.
Sutton Sonnenschein had a triple to pair with two RBI, and the Govs only had to use three arms as Bridger Babcock would close out the win.
After a 2-4 start, the Govs now sit at 8-4 during this win streak and will look to keep it going this weekend
The Govs next doubleheader will be moved to Sunday afternoon due to inclement weather where they will face Brookings at home.
