One of the NHL’s most loyal fanbases will see at least four more games after the Minnesota Wild ended a decade-long drought of winning in the postseason last night. The Wild had not won a playoff series in over ten years before sending home the Dallas Stars with a 5-2 thrilling victory on home ice. With the win, the Wild claimed the series 4-2 and will now face Colorado once the second round begins.
Quinn Hughes was the straw to stir the Wild drink last night with three total points, which included two goals and an assist. Hughes first goal came in the first period when he went top shelf to give the Wild a 1-0 advantage. Dallas would answer back in the second period with back-to-back goals to make it 2-1, but Hughes again clapped back with an assist to Vladimir Tarasenko who had to dive down to his belly to net the tying goal.
Hughes third goal was one of the savviest goals of these playoffs. Instead of shooting it on net, Hughes directed it in front of the crease getting it to ricochet off a Star skate and in to give the Wild what would prove to be the game winner.
A few more empty netters and the Wild would clinch the series in front of their home crowd and now look ahead to the Avalanche who dominated the Kings in a 4-0 sweep in their first round series.
