The South Dakota Department of Transportation began removal and replacement of pavement markings on U.S. Highways 14/83 and S.D. Highway 34 in the Pierre area earlier this week (May 4, 2026).
The pavement marking project includes:
- Highway 83 from south of the S.D. Highway 1806 junction through Fort Pierre to the Highway 14/83 junction;
- Highway 14 from the Highway 1806 junction in Fort Pierre through Pierre on Sioux Avenue and Wells Avenue stopping west of Harrison Avenue;
- Highway 14 From Highway 14/34 junction north to the four-lane divide (Garfield Avenue); and
- Highway 14 from one mile west of the Highway 14/83 intersection (Blunt junction) to one-half mile east of the junction.
Work will be done with a combination of lane closures and flaggers to guide traffic. Motorists should slow down and obey posted speed limits through the work zones.
The $1.4 million project is scheduled to be completed by June 5, 2026.
