The Oahe Hockey Association will be seeing some outstanding new upgrades coming to the Ice Barn in Pierre starting early next month. In an exciting milestone for the hockey community, the groundbreaking ceremony is set to be held June 9th at 4 PM. However, the work has begun long before now. The Oahe Hockey Association has already secured $3.1 million, bringing them within $600k of the vision becoming reality.
The project will progress in phases, with phase one being completed back in 2022. Part of phase one brought initial improvements to the Ice Barn including a new Zamboni, new boards and glass and upgrades to the refrigeration system. Phase two, which was completed in 2023 saw refrigeration system upgrades at the Expo Center in Fort Pierre.
Phase three will see improvements to the parking lot, scoreboard and sound system and fire suppression and bleachers. They also plan to expand on the south side of the facility with renovated and improved concessions, bathrooms and a warming room. On the west side of the facility part of the additions will come to locker rooms, support rooms and referee rooms.
