If you know a South Dakota resident born before October 29, 1917– making them at least 109 years young– they might be qualified to receive an award next month.
All South Dakotans 100 years and older are eligible for recognition through the South Dakota Health Care Association’s Century Club℠. Membership is free, and each inductee receives a specially designed, framed certificate along with a membership card.
Each year in July, SDHCA recognizes the oldest living Century Club℠ member with the Centenarian of the Year award. Since its founding in 1997, the Century Club℠ has welcomed more than 1,550 members.
The state’s Centenarian of the Year in 2024 and 2025 was a former Sully County resident who spent her final years living in Fort Pierre. Hazel Baumberger was 109 years old when she passed away late last year (Dec. 30, 2025), surrounded by family.
