Johnson, current city commissioners to select someone to appoint to fill Johnson’s commission seat until 2027

Unofficial results have Todd Johnson winning the race for mayor of Pierre in Tuesday’s (June 2, 2026) election.

Johnson received 2048 votes to incumbent Steve Harding’s 1750 votes.

With Johnson ascending to the mayor’s position, he has to resign from his current spot on the Pierre City Commission. According to information received from City Administrator Kristi Honeywell earlier this year, Johnson and current city commissioners will select someone to appoint to fill the vacant commission seat until Pierre’s election next year.

With the type of government the City of Pierre has, the Mayor’s position is part-time position. Day-to-day operations are coordinated by Honeywell.
