The Walworth County Commissioners started their regular meeting on Thursday, June 4th, as the Walworth County Canvassing Board and conducted the canvass of the June 2nd primary election. Motion was passed by the Board to approve the votes.
Highway
Walworth County Highway Superintendent Tom Hannan talked with the commissioners about options to vacate a section line off 144th Street where a house is being built southwest of Akaska.
After Hannan visits with the State next week, the issue will be put on the commissioners’ agenda to be approved to vacate and then advertised for a public hearing.
Fixing damage 300th Avenue in Walworth County, also known as the Sitka Road, is also on Hannan’s list this summer.
Register of Deeds
Walworth County Register of Deeds Brenda DeToy has purchased a new search computer for the public to use in her office.
DeToy said pesticide testing is going well.
DeToy also asked for clarification on the time it takes to drive to and from meetings and whether that it should be included as work time. Commission Chairman Randy Carlson told her that in order to be covered by insurance, drive time should be included on the work clock.
Sheriff
The commissioners approved the surplus of two transport vehicles in the Sheriff’s department: a 2010 Chevy Tahoe, and a 2014 Chevy Tahoe. Walworth County Sheriff Josh Boll said they will be included in an August pre-consignment auction with Ulmer Auction Service.
Also during the meeting, the commissioners:
- Approved a $24,364 dollar refund on a tax record for the new gas station in Mobridge;
- Approved a motion to pay Sylvia Chapman $60 an hour for her accounting work for the County;
- Discussed a proposal for new audio and video equipment from Dakota Sound Systems;
- Discussed options with long-term care insurance for county employees;
- Set the first budget meeting for July 8th, which will also be the first regular commission meeting in July.
