The South Dakota Department of Veterans Affairs (SDDVA) hosted a Fallen Hero Bridge Dedication to honor U.S. Army Corporal Lawrence D. Brownotter.
The ceremony was Sunday (August 16, 2026) at 2:00 p.m. (CT) at the V-J Day Celebration Arena (at the intersection of Bullhead Rd and Sitting Bull Ave) in Bullhead.
This dedication is part of a statewide initiative established during the Noem-Rhoden Administration and expanded under Governor Rhoden. In partnership with the South Dakota Departments of Veterans Affairs, Military, and Transportation, the program establishes enduring tributes that honor service and serve as a lasting reminder to future generations.
The SD HWY 65 bridge over the Grand River, south of McIntosh, was dedicated as the CPL Lawrence D. Brownotter bridge.
CPL Brownotter served with honor and distinction, and this dedication will ensure their legacy continues to inspire all who travel this roadway. SDDVA invites the public to attend and recognize this hero’s sacrifice and service to our nation.
