The Chamberlain Cubs have hopes of hosting postseason football come late-October, and after a gutting loss a week ago, Friday night’s matchup with Mt. Vernon-Plankinton was a must win.
The Titans opened up the game with a touchdown from Sawyer Williams who found Ethan Hoffman from 18-yards out to make it 6-0. A periodic drive made up of 8-plays from Chamberlain would be capped off by a three-yard touchdown from Austin Rose that tied it at six apiece.
Austin Rose stamped his name on the game early in the second quarter when he broke one loose for a 68-yard touchdown to make it 12-6.
The Cubs again went on a full-field march, going 94-yards in 10 plays, methodically working their way into Titan territory and capitalizing with another touchdown, this time coming from Brody Neilan to make it 18-6. A huge insurance score since the Titans would not go away quietly scoring midway through the fourth quarter seeing Ethan Hoffman score his second time for the night.
The Cubs would hang on for the win and move to 4-3 on the year while the Titans fall to 1-6. The Cubs will host Winner next week to close out the regular season while the Titans will go to Woonsocket-Wessington Springs-Sanborn Central.
