The Governors had not faced the Rapid City Central Cobblers in the regular season, and the two programs really only faced each other a few times throughout the last few seasons. So there was a bit of unfamiliarity between the two going into Tuesday’s first round matchup in the #16 vs. #1-seed game.
Both teams went through a feeling out phase throughout the first half until the Governors found the first goal of the game. Cameron Larson crashed the outside channel and centered a pass that was finished by Aubrey Fischer to make the score 1-0 at the end of the first half.
The second half was all Pierre. Fischer would again get a crafty assist from Larson for the games second goal, which was immediately followed by two more Fischer goals. She finished the game with four and the Governors got the win 5-0 thanks to a late penalty kick from Myah Fravel.
The Govs will face Brookings on Saturday after the Bobcats won on penalty kicks against Brandon Valley. The game will take place at PILC on Saturday with the time still TBD. Once the start time is decided, we will update here on the local sports page. Saturday’s game will be covered live on the River 92.7 station page at www.DRGnews.com/river/.
