South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem has signed a bill eliminating some requirements on home school education.
Noem says Senate Bill 177 empowers parents who make the choice to educate their children at home. She says for some kids, the home is the best environment for them to get an individualized education that fits their needs. She says the bill also gives home school students the opportunity to participate in activities, which may be the bridge that they need to get back in public school.
Noem also signed two other bills into law:
- SB 124 provides protections for the exercise of religious freedom.
- SB 148 establishes the crime of torture of a human trafficking victim.
Noem has signed 126 bills into law this legislative session.
