Pierre city utility customers are getting something extra in the mail with their March bill– a coupon for a free load at the town’s solid waste facility.
Commissioner Jamie Huizenga says the city sends the coupons out annually to help residents with any cleanup they may be doing around there homes.
Each coupon entitles residential utility customers to the disposal of one small trailer or pickup-size load of waste. The coupons are intended for big items, so Pierre utility customers should continue to use garbage collection services for household waste.
The coupons are valid through November 30, 2021.
The solid waste department also offers recycling programs for paint, bicycles, electronics and light bulbs and provides crushed asphalt and yard compost. For details and fee information, go to cityofpierre.org.
The City of Pierre’s solid waste facility processes all non-recycled solid waste from Pierre, Fort Pierre, Onida, Agar, Midland, Miller, Highmore and Huron, as well as Hughes, Hand and Hyde counties. In total, that amounts to about 24-thousand tons of trash each year. Once baled at Pierre’s solid waste facility, the garbage is disposed at the regional landfill outside of Pierre.
