A Pierre restaurant sustained minimal damage after a fire in a kitchen exhaust hood yesterday (Mon.) evening.
Pierre Volunteer Fire Department chief Ian Paul says when firefighters arrived at the China Buffet building (600 block of West Sioux Avenue), evacuation was in progress and smoke and fire were showing from the roof area.
Paul says they put firefighters on the roof of the building.
Paul says the fire appeared to be accidental, but the cause is still under investigation.
Pierre volunteer firefighters were on scene for about an hour. Other agencies responding included the Fort Pierre Volunteer Fire Department, AMR ambulance service and local law enforcement.
