SkyWest, flying as United Express, will stop providing commercial air service to the Pierre and Watertown regional airports early next year, leaving Denver Air Connection as the sole commercial air service provider for both communities.
In a statement issued Wednesday (Oct. 27, 2021), Denver Air Director of Business Development Jon Coleman said since July, Pierre and Watertown have been able to see the company’s operation up close and personal. He says it was “unprecedented in the EAS system that an incumbent would continue flying in a market after losing the EAS contract to another airline, after the new airline began service.”
During this week’s meeting (Oct. 26, 2021), Pierre City commissioner Jamie Huizenga said the last SkyWest flight will be January 3, 2022. He says despite early concerns brought about by unreliable service from past regional commercial air carriers, Denver Air Connection has proven itself to be dependable.
Coleman says DAC has an interline agreement with United Airlines so passengers will continue to have access to the United network. He says:
-
DAC doesn’t charge a bag fees for the first checked, regularly sized and weighted luggage. Overweight and oversize baggage may incur a fee, similar to those charged by other companies.
-
If connecting to another carrier please check with that carrier on bag fees.
-
Checked baggage connecting to– or from– the United network need only be checked in the originating city and will transfer to United flights.
Denver Air Connection’s Essential Air Service contracts for the Pierre and Watertown regional airports goes through May 2023.
