RAPID CITY – During their outstanding regular season, the Pierre Governors broke a 13-year losing streak in volleyball to Huron. Since then, the Tigers have won twice, including in the state tournament.
Huron stopped Pierre Friday in the consolation round of the SDHSAA AA State Volleyball Tournament, 25-18, 14-25, 25-23, 25-21 at the Summit Arena at the Monument.
Pierre (16-7) played an excellent second set to even the match, but two big service runs helped Huron (15-11) take the third set. The deciding set was close, but Huron won out to play for fifth place on Saturday.
Ayvrie Kaiser led the Governors with 16 kills. She also had an ace, three block assists and seven digs. Reese Terwilliger had 10 kills, an ace, five block assists and five digs. MaKenna Schlekeway had 10 kills, two block assists and six digs. Lily Sanchez served two aces, had 32 set assists, three block assists and 16 digs. Remington Price had an ace and 21 digs. Addison Cumbow had 18 digs.
