Which state has the most Christmas spirit?
According to an analysis by Finder.com, Iowa tops a list that includes the 50 states and the District of Columbia. Trailing just behind the Hawkeye state is West Virginia in second and last year’s (2020) winner, Utah, in third.
South Dakota had the largest jump going from 31st last year to 4th most Christmas spirit this year. According to Google Trends, South Dakota also topped the list for highest search interest in Christmas songs.
At the other end of the spectrum, the analysis says North Dakota is the Scroogiest state in the union, followed by Hawaii, then New York.
If you live below the Mason-Dixon line, there’s a good chance you’re looking forward to the holiday season. Finder.com’s analysis puts five of the top 10 states with the most Christmas spirit in the south, namely: West Virginia, Delaware, Mississippi, Virginia and Maryland.
Geography may also have something to do with being a grinch. Five of the 10 states with the least Christmas spirit are in the West: Hawaii, Nevada, Colorado, Arizona and Wyoming.
Google Shopping and search trends used for this analysis were for the 30 day period from Oct. 18 to Nov. 11, 2021.
