The South Dakota Department of Transportation continues pavement rehabilitation work on US Highways 14, 14B, 83 and SD Highway 34 in Pierre and Fort Pierre this week, weather permitting.
In Fort Pierre, work will continue between the Bad River Bridge and 3rd Street.
In Pierre, work will continue between St. Charles Street and Henry Street. The traffic closure will be switched moving the traffic from the inside lanes to the outside lanes, allowing the contractor work on the inside 3 lanes. An additional lane closure will be set up to allow work from Pierre Street to South Brule Street in the outside, west bound lane. The inside west bound lane will be closed at times to allow for equipment to remove, load and haul old existing concrete away AND allow room for equipment to be present during concrete placement. During these times west bound traffic will be moved into the center turn lane while east bound traffic remains in its lanes. The contractor will also be putting new pavement markings on Sioux & Wells Avenues through Pierre.
Traffic will be carried through the work zone with the use of flaggers, lane shifts and lane closures, but no road closures or detours are expected. Over-width vehicles will be required to go around the dam in lieu of going through the construction zones.
The approximate completion date for the project is mid-June.
The first part of this project was done last year, primarily in Fort Pierre.
