The South Dakota Department of Transportation and partners will hold a public meeting on the Pierre-Fort Pierre Missouri River Bridge Replacement Project Thursday (Nov. 19) evening (7-8:30pm) at the Capitol Lake Visitors Center in Pierre.
Officials and contractors will give an overview of the project, its phases and a glimpse of what the new bridge will look like. Details such as local impact, timelines and bridge statistics will also be shared at the event.
To comply with COVID-19 safety guidelines, attendance will be limited to 60 members of the public on a first-come basis. The open house will also be streamed on the SDDOT Facebook page and will be available there for viewing after the event. Questions will be taken from those at the meeting as well as from the comment section on the Facebook Live stream.
A 2016 study done by the SDDOT concluded the John C. Waldron Memorial Bridge, built in 1962, has reached the end of its useful life and needs to be replaced. The current structure carries traffic from US Highways 14 and 83 and SD Highway 34 across the bridge that serves as the primary crossing point over the Missouri River between Fort Pierre and Pierre.
