A 20 year old woman from Pierre was sentenced in Sixth Circuit Court yesterday (Wed.) for revocation of her suspended prison sentences for Possession of Methamphetamine and Failure to Appear.
Stanley County States Attorney Tom Maher says Eddy Bear Shield was arrested in May 2020 for possession of methamphetamine and other drug related charges. She failed to appear for court on July 14, 2020.
In November 2020, Bear Shield pled guilty and was sentenced to five years imprisonment for the methamphetamine offense and an additional two years for her failure to appear. At the original sentencing, the prison sentences were both suspended on the condition that Bear Shield successfully complete felony drug court.
However, Maher says because of Bear Shield’s continued use of drugs and failure to show up and participate in the Problem Solving Court and treatment services, she was terminated from the drug court and her suspended prison sentence was revoked.
Maher says with credit for time served and non-violent offense parole eligibility rules, Bear Shield will become eligible for parole after serving about one-fourth of the sentence. He says Bear Shield was also sentenced to pay her previously ordered fines, costs and attorneys fees, as well as her new attorneys fees incurred during the revocation of the suspended sentences.
