Over the weekend (April 10), South Dakota hit the half way point of all state residents who are eligible having received at least one does of a COVID-19 vaccine.
State Secretary of Health Kim Malsam-Rysdon says the 50% mark puts South Dakota among the top nationwide leaders in vaccination efforts, with over 208,485 residents having completed their vaccination series. She says this translates to approximately 25% of the state having been fully vaccinated against the virus, so far.
Malsam-Rysdon says according to recent data, there’s been a 7% jump in COVID-19 cases among those who are 20-29 years old in the past six weeks. She says from March 23 to April 5, 479 cases were linked to this age group, totaling 19% of all identified cases. She says vaccinations is the quickest way out of this pandemic.
Malsam-Rysdon says in addition to getting vaccinated, continued testing is also still important. She says you can request a free at-home COVID-19 test on the SDDOH website.
