6:30PM UPDATE:
The Pierre City Commission has voted not to make changes to the town’s ordinance governing residential fireworks use July 3 and 4.
Commissioner Jim Mehlhaff proposed an amendment to the ordinance that would change last year’s temporary permission to use fireworks in city limits to a permanent ordinance change. The amendment died on a 4-1 vote.
Last year, Pierre allowed consumer fireworks, like those typically sold at fireworks stands, to be used within city limits only on those two designated days (July 3 and 4).
