The Pierre City Commission has voted not to make changes to the town’s ordinance governing residential fireworks use July 3 and 4.
Commissioner Jim Mehlhaff proposed an amendment that would make last year’s temporary permission to use fireworks within city limits a permanent ordinance change.
Here’s what one proponent had to say…..
Now some thoughts from one of the opponents…..
Last year, Pierre allowed consumer fireworks, like those typically sold at fireworks stands, to be used within city limits only on those two designated days (July 3 and 4).
Fort Pierre does allow fireworks use around the Independence Day holiday, but no bottle rockets less than 14 inches total length or with a rocket motor length of less than 2 inches are allowed and absolutely no sky lanterns. Hours for discharging fireworks in Fort Pierre every year are:
- July 2 from 9am–10:30pm
- July 3-4 from 9am–midnight
- July 5 from 9am–10:30pm
