This is National Work Zone Awareness Week (April 26-30, 2021) and if you live in the Pierre and Fort Pierre area, there’s plenty of construction projects to be aware of.
South Dakota Department of Transportation Pierre area engineer Dean VanDeWiele says one huge project underway is the replacement of the bridge over the Missouri River between Fort Pierre and Pierre.
He says they’ll be finishing a project that started last fall east of Pierre.
VanDeWiele says there’s another project on Highway 14 east of Harrold.
Before the end of August, he says chip seal work will be done on Highway 14 west of Fort Pierre.
And, VanDeWiele says, they’re doing bridge work on Highway 1806 east of Fort Pierre.
VanDeWiele recommends checking your route before you leave to see if there are any areas under construction. You can do that by looking at the sd511.org website or the SD511 mobile app.
