An 18 year old woman from Rapid City faces DUI and other charges after a traffic accident around 10:45 Friday night (June 25) in Pierre.
Preliminary information from the Pierre Police Department says a vehicle operated by 24-year-old Erika Wounded Knee stopped at the stop sign on Mac Lane, but failed to yield before turning west onto Sioux Avenue. As a result, her vehicle was struck by an eastbound vehicle on Sioux Avenue. That vehicle was driven by 18 year old Kenadi Rising of Rapid City. Witnesses reported Rising appeared to be speeding and was driving without the headlights being turned on.
Wounded Knee and a passenger in the vehicle operated by Rising were transported to Avera St. Mary’s Hospital to be treated for injuries.
Rising was arrested for DUI, Underage Consumption of Alcohol and Open Container in a Motor Vehicle. In addition, a passenger in Rising’s car, 18-year-old Chelsie Vickerman, was cited for Underage Consumption of Alcohol.
The accident is still under investigation.
