UPDATE (2PM CT):
Traffic was disrupted for about two hours today (June 30) in Pierre after a contractor hit a gas line near the George S. Mickelson Criminal Justice Center.
Pierre Volunteer Fire Department chief Ian Paul says the break was in the ditch on the south side of the road.
This is the fifth gas line break this month in Pierre. There’s been one gas line break this month in Fort Pierre. There have been no injuries or serious damage from any of the incidents.
UPDATE (NOON CT):
The intersection of Highways 14 and 1804 in Pierre is back open. The gas leak has been repaired.
ORIGINAL STORY:
Motorists in Pierre are being asked to avoid the intersection of Highways 1804 and 14 until at least mid-afternoon today (June 30) because of a gas line break near the George S. Mickelson Criminal Justice Center.
The Information from the Pierre Police Department says the repair may take up to four hours to complete. People are asked to take an alternate route around that area. Taking 4th Street to Garfield Avenue is one suggested detour route.
The gas line was hit around 9:30am.
