People in Fort Pierre are asked to continue conserving water because of a main water line break in town earlier this week (June 28, 2021)– but city officials have revised the use restrictions.
Mayor Gloria Hanson says through the weekend, residents can use water for routine activities, but are asked to refrain from activities such as vehicle/boat washing, filling pools or other activities with excessive use.
Unnecessary water use could put Fort Pierre’s water supply in a vulnerable position for having enough water for drinking or fire protection.
Again, regarding lawn and garden watering, Fort Pierre residents should avoid watering during the hottest part of the day and may only water every other day.

Effective at MIDNIGHT SUNDAY NIGHT JULY 4, full water use restrictions will go back into place in order to replenish the supply in the storage tank. The core pipeline is tentatively scheduled to be shut off for permanent repairs July 6-8. Absolutely NO LAWN or GARDEN WATERING will be allowed until the restriction is lifted.
Anyone with questions should contact the Fort Pierre City Office at 605-223-7690.
