Pierre city officials are holding the first of three informational meetings today (July 8) on a proposed plan to implement a registration, licensing and inspection program for rental housing in town.
The plan calls for all non-owner occupied rental structures within the city of Pierre to be registered and licensed annually and inspected at least every five years.
Pierre fire chief Ian Paul says today’s meeting is at 10am in the Dakota Room at River Cities Transit (1600 E. Dakota Avenue).
The other meetings, which will also be held at River Cities Transit, will be tomorrow (Fri.) at noon and Monday at 5:30pm.
City Finance director Twila Hight says if the program is approved, all of the inspection information will be available to the public online.
She says property owners will also be able to use the website.
Following the three informational meetings, Pierre city staff will come back to the commission for action on a proposed ordinance.
