South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem has fired State Penitentiary Warden Darin Young and Deputy Warden Jennifer Dreiske following a continuing investigation by the South Dakota Bureau of Human Resources.
Additionally, Director of Pheasantland Industries Stefany Bawek has been placed on administrative leave.
Tuesday (July 13, 2021), Noem announced both Young and state Secretary of Corrections and former Hughes County sheriff Mike Leidholt had been put on administrative leave. She appointed Tim Reisch to serve as Interim Secretary of Corrections and Deputy Secretary of Corrections Doug Clark to step in as acting warden at the state prison until a longer-term interim can be named.
Reisch, Bureau of Human Resources Commissioner Darin Seeley and Secretary of Social Services Laurie Gill are leading the ongoing investigation.
