The Pierre-Fort Pierre Historic Preservation Commission is hosting a free bus tour Saturday (Aug. 14) to two historically significant Native American sites near Pierre.
A River Cities Transit bus will pick up passengers on the west side of the WalMart parking lot Saturday at 9am CT. Native American historian Donovin Sprague will moderate the tour of Medicine Knoll near Blunt and the Arikara Village southeast of Pierre.
On Friday, Sprague will speak at 6pm CT at Fischer’s Lilly Park as part of Fort Pierre Trader Days. He will share information about his ancestors, Black Buffalo and Hump, and how they connect to the history of the early fur trading posts in the area.
