Two South Dakota Native American tribes are getting state funding for their 9-1-1 telecommunications centers.
In March, the Oglala Sioux Tribe received approval for funding of $86,240 in funds from the state’s 9-1-1 Coordination Board. The same board recently (Sept. 1, 2021) approved $46,449.80 for the Cheyenne River Tribal DPS.
South Dakota Department of Public Safety Secretary Craig Price says this one-time funding is available to 9-1-1 centers statewide for equipment upgrades and other infrastructure needs. He says reliable 9-1-1 communications is a necessity everywhere in our state and this funding helps meet that need.
The state 9-1-1 Program and Coordination Board are part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
