Today (Oct. 26, 2021) is Wallace R. Halverson Day in South Dakota and Capital City Campus in Pierre is celebrating the occasion with an open house and building re-dedication.
Capital City Campus– formerly Capital University Center– was founded in 1982 with a mission to meet post-secondary educational needs of students in central South Dakota. The Wallace R. Halverson Education Building was completed in 2009 and houses classrooms, offices, a lecture auditorium and a couple of board rooms.
The celebration at CCC (925 E. Sioux Avenue) begins at 4pm, followed by the reading of the Wallace R. Halverson Day State of South Dakota Proclamation at 4:30pm. Shortly after, tours of the building will include opportunities to speak with representatives from Lake Area Technical College and Dakota Wesleyan University about the programs offered at CCC.
LATC began a Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) program in the fall of 2020. Now, into the fall 2021 semester with their second cohort of students, LATC is ready to continue into 2022 with another cohort in the fall.
DWU will also be available to talk about the early success of their first cohort attending the 16-month Learn & Earn program at CCC. Classes began in August 2021.
Refreshments will be provided and all attendees have the opportunity to win an open house gift, with the winner being drawn at 5:45pm. Need not be present to win.
