RAPID CITY – The perfect start to the Oahe Capitals’ 2021-22 season ended Sunday when the Capitals lost a 3-0 lead and lost to the Rushmore Thunder on the road 5-3.
Carter Sanderson scored twice for Oahe (4-1), his 10th and 11th goals of the season, to give the Capitals their three-goal lead just under five minutes into the second period. Rushmore then rallied to score twice in the second period, had the tying goal from Hayden Holec with 4:28 left in the third period, then the winner from Kaleb Merchen two minutes later.
Sanderson also had an assist. Ashton Griese scored a goal and an assist.
The Capitals will host Yankton Saturday and Sunday at the Expo Center in Fort Pierre.
