SIOUX FALLS – Defending champion Sioux Falls Roosevelt is back in the championship game after a semifinal win Friday at the SDHSAA Class AA Boys Tournament at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center. O’Gorman had a shot at the buzzer by David Alpers to outlast Sioux Falls Washington in overtime.
Semifinals
Sioux Falls Roosevelt 61, Harrisburg 46
Roosevelt (23-0) had a 17-3 run bridging the end of the second quarter and the start of the third to erase a four-point deficit and take control of the game. Micah Johnson scored 18 and Vance Borchers 14 for the Rough Riders, who on Saturday will try to become the first repeat AA boys champion since Sioux Falls Lincoln in 2015 & ’16.
Jacoby Mehrman scored 15 for the Tigers (15-8).
O’Gorman 58, Sioux Falls Washington 57 (OT)
Alpers hit a shot to win the game at the end of overtime after he hit a putback at the close of regulation to force overtime for the Knights (21-2), who rallied from an eight-point deficit. Alpers scored 28 points on 11-of-17 shooting with 12 rebounds and four steals.
Joe Uttecht led the Warriors (15-8) with 28 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter.
Consolation
Mitchell 66, Yankton 56
The Kernels shot 59% from the floor as Caden Hinker controlled the inside with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Steele Morgan had 17 points and 12 rebounds. Dylan Soulek also scored 17 for Mitchell (15-8).
Rugby Ryken poured in 25 for Yankton (13-10).
Sioux Falls Lincoln 69, Sioux Falls Jefferson 68
JT Rock hit his third three-pointer of the game at the buzzer to give Lincoln (13-10) the win. Rock led the Patriots with 22 points. Caleb Hiatt scored 14.
Taylen Ashley tallied 14 points for Jefferson (13-10).
