SIOUX FALLS – Marcus Phillips hit two three-pointers in overtime Saturday as Sioux Falls Roosevelt held off O’Gorman 54-52 to complete a perfect season and win its second straight championship at the SDHSAA Class AA State Tournament at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center.
O’Gorman (21-3) had a 12-4 run to end regulation, including a tying three-pointer by Matt Eng with 55 seconds left. But then, Phillips hit his two threes in the first three field goals of the overtime period for Roosevelt (24-0).
Phillips scored 16 for Roosevelt. David Alpers had 12 points and 10 rebounds for O’Gorman, with Eng scoring 10.
Roosevelt is the first repeat AA boys champion since Sioux Falls Lincoln won in 2015 & ‘16.
3rd Place – Sioux Falls Washington 66, Harrisburg 55
Mikele Kambalo ensured a third-place finish for Washington (16-8) with 34 points. He was 13-of-22 shooting, including 7-of-11 on three-pointers.
Harrisburg (15-9) was led by 15 points from Gavin Aasheim.
5th Place – Sioux Falls Lincoln 69, Mitchell 52
Elliot Whitney scored 24 for Lincoln (14-10), who rallied from a seven-point halftime deficit by outsourcing Mitchell (15-9) 40-16 in the second half.
Caden Hinker scored 22 points with nine rebounds in his final game for the Kernels.
7th Place – Sioux Falls Jefferson 54, Yankton 32
Taylen Ashley scored 15 for Jefferson (14-10), who made the state tournament in the first year of the program.
Yankton (13-11) was paced by the 10 points of Rugby Ryken.
