When it comes to infrastructure in Fort Pierre, the candidates for mayor in next month’s municipal election (April 12, 2022) have very different ways of thinking.
During a candidate forum hosted by the Pierre Area and Fort Pierre Chambers of Commerce (May 19, 2022), Mayor Gloria Hanson and challenger Jim Hoffman talked about streets and the town’s water supply.
Hoffman sees the street problem as a lack of planning by town officials.
Hoffman’s accusation prompted this response from Hanson.
Hoffman, who was Mayor of Fort Pierre from 1982-92, then shifted gears from streets to there being no plan for Fort Pierre’s water supply.
Hanson says the town’s current water supply situation wasn’t caused by current city employees or council members.
Along with the mayor’s race, Scott Deal is challenging Carl Rathbun for the Ward 2 Alderman position on the Fort Pierre City Council.
