FORT MYERS, FL – Big hits helped the Minnesota Twins to a 9-4 spring training win over the Pittsburgh Pirates Wednesday at Hammonds Stadium.
Gary Sánchez hit a two-run double to tie the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth. Byron Buxton followed with an RBI single to give the Twins (5-8) a 3-2 lead.
Minnesota then broke the game open with a six-run sixth inning, all produced by home runs. Miguel Sanó hit his first homer of the spring, a two-run shot, before Byron Buxton blasted a grand slam, his second spring home run.
Prospect Josh Winder started and struck out four in three innings. Taylor Rogers gave up a home run, but notched his second win this spring.
Dylan Bundy is scheduled to start Thursday when the Twins meet the Red Sox at JetBlue Park in Fort Myers.
