The Pierre School Board has approved a nearly $40.8 million budget for the 2022-23 school year, which is a nearly 20% increase over the 2021-22 budget.
Business manager Darla Mayer says the cost of many items the district purchases has gone up substantially, one of which is the utility bill paid to the City of Pierre.
Superintendent Dr. Kelly Glodt expressed disappointment at the change in the school district’s agreement with Pierre.
Glodt says the school district doesn’t have many options when covering an unexpected expense.
Under state law, School Boards must approve their district’s annual budget by Oct. 1 (2022).
