A federal judge has decided the penalty for a 46 year old man from Pine Ridge convicted of Conspiracy to Distribute a Controlled Substance and Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person.
Lew Bettelyoun was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison, followed by five years of supervised release, and a $200 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
Court information says Bettelyoun was responsible for distributing at least 500 grams of methamphetamine on the Pine Ridge Reservation during his involvement in the conspiracy. He obtained methamphetamine and distributed it to others, knowing those persons would engage in additional distribution. Bettelyoun also possessed firearms in furtherance of his drug trafficking conspiracy.
