PIERRE – Both Pierre Governor soccer teams improved to 3-2 Thursday with shutout victories over Sturgis at the PILC Soccer Complex.
GIRLS: Pierre 2, Sturgis 0
Though the Governors had chances throughout the match, they didn’t score until seventh-grader Lexie Hillmer scored in the 56th minute, set up by Grace Richter. Bria Sargent doubled the Pierre lead in the 76th minute on an intended cross that bounded into the net after the Scoopers misplayed it.
BOYS: Pierre 3, Sturgis 0
Rylan Derry scored twice as the Governors won. Ashton Griese gave Pierre the only goal it needed in the 36th minute. With just seconds left in the first half, Derry delivered a brilliant volley from the left wing into the upper right corner. Derry scored his seventh of the season in the 48th minute.
