BOX ELDER – With the playoffs ahead, the 2022 Pierre Governors remain undaunted.
Lincoln Kienholz threw four touchdown passes Thursday, three to Cade Kaiser, and ran for another as Pierre improved to 9-0 and clinched the top seed in the 11AA playoffs with a 46-6 win over Douglas at Dave Broadie Field.
Kienholz hit Brecken Krueger with a 48-yard touchdown pass in the game’s first minute.
Pierre soon after scored a special teams touchdown when the punt of Jacob Thibeau was blocked by Chase Carda and recovered in the end zone for a touchdown by George Stalley.
With 29 seconds left in the first quarter, Kienholz ran in a 27-yard touchdown for a 19-0 Governor lead.
Early in the second quarter, Chance Carda picked off an Aiden Russell pass and returned it 34 yards for a touchdown to increase the Pierre advantage to 25-0.
Kienholz found Kaiser for touchdown strikes of one and 22 yards later in the second quarter and Pierre led 39-0 at halftime.
Kienholz and Kaiser connected again for a 26-yard score with just over five minutes in the third quarter for Pierre’s final touchdown.
Kienholz was 16 of 20 for 209 yards passing. Brock Moser rushed four times for 38 yards. Kaiser caught four passes for 56 yards.
Pierre completed a perfect regular season for the first time since 2019 and will host Sturgis in the first round of the 11AA playoffs Thursday at Hollister Field at Phil Trautner Stadium.
